Sándor Kányádi, the prominent poet living in Transylvania, chose a seven-year-old little boy for the hero of these tales. The boy lives in a small village surrounded by snow-capped mountains. He's very fond of wild flowers and all of nature's creatures. He delights in the first snowdrop, in the wild raspberries he finds in the woods, and he sings along with the birds while they're busy constructing their nests, but he's the happiest when he can find a home for a sad-looking, stray dog. That's how the little boy ends up taking care of a whole litter of puppies with the help of his classmates.
